Tattoo Cover-Ups in Royston
Don't cover a problem with another problem.
Got an old tattoo you no longer want?
A successful cover-up isn't simply a matter of putting a darker design over the top. The existing tattoo affects what can be designed, where it can sit, how dark it needs to be and how the finished piece will age.
That's why every cover-up starts with an assessment of the existing tattoo.

Sometimes it can be covered directly.
Sometimes it needs fading first.
And sometimes a completely different approach will give you a better result.
I’ll tell you which applies to your tattoo before you commit to anything.

When laser fading can help
If the existing tattoo is too dark, heavily saturated or sitting in an awkward position, laser fading can reduce the existing pigment before the new tattoo is applied.
You don't necessarily need complete removal.
The aim can simply be to create enough space for a new design to work properly.
Because tattooing and laser removal are both available at Eunoia INK, you can have the entire process planned in one place.
Laser tattoo fading starts from £50 per session.

What makes a good cover-up?
A good cover-up takes the existing tattoo into account from the beginning.

I’ll look at:
- the size and position of the existing tattoo
- how dark and dense the pigment is
- any existing scar tissue
- your skin tone
- the design you want
- how the new tattoo needs to flow with the body
- whether laser fading would improve the result
There isn’t a universal cover-up design that works for everyone.
The design needs to be built around your particular tattoo.
The process

1. Consultation
Bring the existing tattoo and tell me what you’d like to change. We’ll look at what’s possible and whether fading would be worthwhile.
2. Plan
If the tattoo can be covered directly, we’ll move into the design process. If it needs fading first, we’ll discuss a laser treatment plan before designing the new piece.
3. Design
Your cover-up is designed specifically around the existing tattoo, your preferred style and the placement.
4. Tattoo
Once the existing tattoo is ready, the new design is tattooed with the long-term result in mind.

I'll assess what you're working with and tell you honestly whether it can be covered as it is or whether fading would improve the result.
